Bio for Thomas Lino – Sound Designer

Tom’s background in film begins as an assistant picture editor for television commercials. He worked for ten years on advertising’s best material including Calvin Klein, Coca-Cola, Pepsi and General Electric. His interests moved to sound design and more independent projects. For the last six years he has been Thomas Lino Sound Design.

Catering to the small independent filmmaker Tom has been involved in the revolution of digital filmmaking. “Having cut and spliced film on flat beds and Moviolas I can’t say enough about today’s technology,” says Mr. Lino. “It’s not only made things faster, it has also made tremendous strides in quality and resolution. The audio and visual media we work with today has freed up the creative process leaving behind cumbersome techniques. Today’s filmmakers get us right into their lives and stories with small inconspicuous camcorders. I’m blown away by the material I see.”

Tom Lino works on a Pro Tools digital audio work-station and is able to work closely with people and their films giving them as much time as they need to sculpt the sound for their visions. Some of his recent projects have been selected and screened at the Sundance, New York, Los Angles International, Venice and London film festivals, as well as a Student Academy Award in 2001. His sound design has also been part of international sculptural installations with the artist, Sarah Sze.
